Concert to help local student...

A fundraising concert will be held Saturday evening, June 2 to aid NMHU Music Major Daniel Torres, who has been invited to attend a special guitar Master’s Class in Volterra, Italy this summer.

Daniel currently studies guitar with Roberto Capocchi at NMHU. He also studies piano with Linda King and will start voice lessons this fall with Andre Garcia-Nuthmann.

This class, called the Volterra Project, selects only four American students per year.

Classical Guitarist Ismail Arthur is returning to Las Vegas after a long absence to perform on Saturday, January 21, at 7:00 p.m.,at Saint Paul's Peace Church 810 8th Street, Las Vegas. Mr. Arthur lives in Albuquerque and has an MS degree in performance from UNM.

Romeroville Gas Station Rumor

A rumor was spreading through the town earlier this week that the gas station at Romeroville was closing or had been closed down by some agency or another, citing the ripping out of the gas pumps as evidence.

Closer inspection reveals that the pumps were removed so new pumps could be installed and that the official-looking vehicles in the area were on hand to calibrate the new pumps.

HU Football Leads Div. II In...

Averaging 168 yards in penalties per game! Yet on the other hand, they FORCE 94 yards per game...How can a Division II college football squad have a WINNING TRADITION with those numbers?

Previously HU had nearly 500 yards total offense per game. Last evening in their 30-24 Homecoming loss to the Adams State Grizzlies the 'Pokes total offense netted 266 yards, just barely above 50% of their average! And an unheard of NO FIRST DOWNS the second half!

HU Roundballers Sure Could'...

Make no mistake about it, Metro State has an outstanding basketball squad, and very worthy of a #3 ranking in NCAA Division II. And despite losing two straight to HU last year, mainly from the "M&M" Juniors (Monzano & Markevicious), this opening Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) game in Denver showed how badly the 'Pokes missed their two RMAC All-Stars, who combined 34.6 points.

    Three Las Vegas Singers recently performed with the Canticum Novum Chorus and Orchestra at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Retreat and Conference Center in Santa Fe. Andre Garcia-Nuthmann of the Highlands University faculty was the tenor soloist for Mozart's Missa Brevis in B-flat, K. 275. Shawn Woodyard of the Highlands faculty and Mike Hatlee of the United World College faculty were member of the chorus.

    The concerts were Saturday, November 10, 5:00 PM and Sunday, November 11, 3:00 PM with a pre-concert lecture one hour before each performance.

    Snowpack in the Gallinas...

    The Snowtel site at Wesner spring shows 11 inches of snow on the ground, all of it arriving between yesterday and today.  What a treat for our watershed.  Total precipitation (snow converted to water) since October 1 up there is 3.2 inches.  The snow has pretty much been melting as fast as at falls up until the current storm, but the fluctuations in the Gallinas flow have shown that snow has been falling every now and then.
