Some call him a water witch. Frank Hager, a retired engineer, prefers to be called a dowser.
The 82-year-old Ojitos Frios Ranches Subdivision resident practices the ancient art of finding water hidden deep beneath the surface. It’s a practice that dates back at least 8,000 years.
A dowser walks through an empty field holding a Y-shaped stick in both hands before him. If there’s water below, the dowser is often able to sense it.
