Two killed in apparent DWI crash

Two people died early Sunday morning in a rollover just outside of Mora, and state police suspect that alcohol was a factor.

The deceased have been identified as Diego Martinez, 20, of Mora, and Devin Candelaria, 20, of Georgetown, Texas.

The rollover occurred on NM 518, Mile Post 28, outside of Mora.

State police say Martinez was driving the vehicle south on NM 518. The vehicle drifted to the right, continued for a short distance and then rolled over.

No major incidents during rally

Las Vegas police were out in force over the weekend as hundreds of motorcyclists flocked to the Meadow City for the annual Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally.

Aside from bar fights at El Rialto and the Plaza Hotel on Saturday night, the rally itself was relatively quiet, Deputy Chief Eugene Garcia said. Garcia said no serious injuries resulted from those fights. Officers cited those involved.

Police did make a few arrests, but those cases didn’t appear to be related to rally participants.

Over the Edge - Play will keep audience laughing

Las Vegas’ own parody will hit the stage once again starting tomorrow evening. Over the Edge Part 7 is one that you don’t want to miss, as it is full of comical relief poking fun at local and national events, including the departure of former City Manager Tim Dodge, the oil and gas industry, ObamaCare, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez’s visits to Las Vegas, and the Bradner Dam project.

Overall, the play pokes fun at the pharmaceutical industry using various fake names for medications.

NM tax holiday starts Friday

SANTA FE — New Mexico’s annual tax holiday is approaching and will provide shoppers with savings on purchases of school supplies, computers and some clothing and shoes.

Starting Friday through the weekend, there will be no gross receipts tax on certain products purchased at participating retailers.

The tax rate varies across the state, but exceeds 8 percent in some communities.

Retiree health care agency proposes solvency plan

SANTA FE — Taxpayers and public employees would pay an extra $45 million annually under a proposal to improve the finances of a program providing subsidized health care for retired state and local government workers.

The Retiree Health Care Authority executive director Mark Tyndall said Monday the Legislature will be asked to phase in the increases in payroll contributions over three years starting in mid-2016. Lawmakers convene in January.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.  — Peyton Manning’s top target is back. In the building, at least.

Demaryius Thomas returned from bereavement leave Monday, but his flight from Georgia didn’t get back in time for him to participate in a spirited practice at Dove Valley that featured three scuffles.

Thomas missed the first five days of training camp for the AFC champs following the death last week of his grandmother.
