MAJORS DIVISION
Monday games: Yankees vs. Red Sox, 5:30 p.m.; Cardinals vs. Mariners, 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday games: Yankees vs. Reds, 5:30 p.m.; Orioles vs. Mariners, 7:30 p.m.

MINORS DIVISION
Monday games: Red Wings vs. Thunder, 6:15 p.m.; Paw Sox vs. Sandgnats, 7:45 p.m.

No two days are ever the same on a ranch. Just about the time I think my life and all that goes with it is slow and calm, my bubble gets busted once again.

Such is the case recently when the clouds built up over our mountains, the temperature dropped like a rock, and before we know it, we had a snow storm of sorts surrounding us.

Now our cows are not dummies, because most of them have babies (calves in ranching terms), they decided they’d better spend the following cold and snowy night in, under our sheds.

Ex-Optic publisher launches Community News Exchange

Eleven New Mexico newspapers began sharing content this week as part of a newly created service named Community News Exchange, or CNEx, which is spearheaded by former Optic publisher Tom McDonald.

The Exchange  focuses on small-town community news in New Mexico, seeking to report on issues of interest to readers in the more rural areas of the state. Its intent is to supplement community newspapers with content that no other service provides.

All-RMAC baseball: Six from NMHU

Six New Mexico Highlands University baseball players were selected to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams this year.  

The Cowboys, led by head coach Steve Jones, finished the season with a 29-24 record. As a No. 3 seed in the 2013 RMAC Tournament, they went 1-2, losing to eventual runner-up and national powerhouse Colorado Mesa in an elimination game Saturday.

Work of Art — Who’s responsible for alphabet?

Thumbing through the pages of a website called The Straight Dope, I came across a question that is totally relevant during May, the month of graduations.

Someone on the website asked, “Why is the alphabet in alphabetical order?” The reader adds, “Who decided A was the first letter, B was the second, and so on?”

Tuesday, May 21 — Commencement exercises will be held at 7:30 tonight at the Immaculate Conception Church for the final graduating class of the Immaculate Conception School. The Rt. Rev. Monsignor William T. Bradley, superintendent of Catholic Schools in New Mexico, will confer the diplomas to 13 students. Graduates are Clara Conrad, Peter Delgado, Gilbert Esquibel, Tom Huie, Frank Lovato, Jose Maestas, Robert Martinez Jr, Susan Rehders, Elsie Romero, Grace Romero, Dolores Rudolph, Herman Sanchez Jr. and Earl Williams.
