SANTA FE — More than 30,000 state and local government workers face a 15 percent increase for their health care insurance starting next month, but it could be only the beginning of higher costs as New Mexico’s self-insurance program digs out of a financial hole.

Area school districts are doing all they can to ensure that a child does not go hungry during the summer just because school isn’t in session.

And that’s good news given that Feeding America, the national food bank organization, announced this week that New Mexico ranks highest in childhood hunger in the nation. The organization’s study found that 30 percent of children in New Mexico are experiencing hunger.

Bear attacks elderly woman
RATON — State wildlife officials say an 82-year-old bedridden woman suffered scratches on her face and head when a 400-pound black bear broke into her northern New Mexico home and attacked her.
The Department of Game and Fish says it happened Tuesday night north of Cimarron.
According to the agency, the woman told authorities she was in bed with the doors and windows open when the bear broke the latch on a screen door and entered her bedroom.

I keep hearing about nepotism at Luna Community College. This kind of management is detrimental to the school because obviously the best candidates for a position are never considered irregardless of what they may bring to the table. Las Vegas has suffered for many years under this kind of management system. It is time to remove those that condone this practice and look for individuals that can move Luna CC forward. Your children’s future is at stake; this kind of archaic system must be removed and people held accountable.
