San Miguel County commissioners at their July 9 meeting unanimously approved a resolution to increase gross receipts taxes to cover the increased cost of paying for indigent medical care.
The resolution to adopt a 12th of one percent additional gross receipts tax would, if approved at a later meeting, add an additional 8 cents to a $100 purchase.
The proposed tax would cover the county’s increased cost of paying for indigent health care since the state took over the process this year.
