Simon R. Fresquez, of the United States Navy CMI/EXW/SW has been awarded the Marvin G. Shields Award for the calendar year 2012.

This award is presented to recognize the one Sea- bee that has made extraordinary contributions to the naval construction force and has upheld the highest traditions and legacy of U.S. Navy Seabees over the course of the past year.   

A top state official assured Las Vegas residents this week that he and Gov. Susana Martinez’s administration recognize how critical the Gallinas Watershed is to Las Vegas and that steps are being taken to protect it.

“Protecting the watershed here is a top priority,” Lt. Gov. John Sanchez said at a community meeting held at Luna Community College’s Las Vegas campus on Tuesday evening.

“All is being done to address the watershed concerns.”

Roughly three years ago, Joseph Weathers set out to  give back to his community. He soon became involved with various community organizations, but his heart has always been set on re-opening the theater in Mora located near the Mora Spinning Mill, also known as the Tapetes de Lana Weaving Center.

The Chief theater in downtown Mora was a vibrant and well-attended landmark until it closed in the 1970s. Weathers decided to make it his mission to re-open the theater as part of the “Bring Back the Memories, Mora Valley Theatre.”
