Sticker shock

The Abe Montoya Recreation Center pool area has been offline since early May, when fierce winds ripped off a portion of the roof.

Six months later, consultants hired by the city to look at the building are estimating that it will cost about $3.3 million to repair the roof and to take care of the other deficiencies discovered in the building.

We’ll be the first to admit that the $3.3 million figure was shockingly high, and we wonder how the city is going to come up with that funding.
