You have achieved the American dream: a family, great house, fifth-wheel travel trailer, new sports utility vehicles, flowers growing abundantly around here and there.
This quaint view of life is not shared by the dog, however. Being tethered to a four-foot log chain 24 hours a day, seven days a week is nothing to celebrate for him. There are no toys, so he tosses his water bowl in the air for entertainment. He watches achingly as kids play in front of him, but he is ignored — seen as something not animate, but as an “it,” a thing not worthy of notice.
