THUMBS DOWN! GARCIA’S TROUBLES. It was a bad week for Thomas Garcia, who is juggling three high-profile roles these days — as Mora Independent School District superintendent, a candidate for the District 8 state Senate position and as a District 68 state representative out of Ocaté.

  • Former candidates make endorsement

For this municipal election, we as mayoral candidates, had a unique opportunity to see deep inside the workings and critical issues facing city government. As such, we feel a responsibility to our community to give our recommendations as to the best outcome of this runoff election, in forming what we view is the strongest ruling body.

  • For Herrera, Gurule-Giron

Since moving back to our hometown, Las Vegas, we lived in Denver for 20 years and previously lived in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, we are very disappointed with the political morass so prevalent here. A good analogy is: There is only one bone in the street so all the perrada (dogs) jump in for it.

  • Ortiz the clear choice for mayor

For me there is no question about who the next mayor of Las Vegas should be. Mayor Alfonso Ortiz has earned my vote in Tuesday’s runoff election. He has provided confident and strong leadership during a period when our city government has needed to take a more proactive stance on a number of social, environmental and economic issues facing our community.

My confidence in Mayor Ortiz leads me to believe that four years from now our community will have been well served by his presence and leadership.

  • City in bad spot with new law

The people of Las Vegas now have a clear choice in the city election coming up. Do they want someone who rushes into passing a law that has not been fully thought through or someone who says not so fast.
