  • Dems, don’t gloat over failure

    The following editorial recently appeared in the Jacksonville (Fla.) Daily News.

    Democrats remain in gloating mode following the failure of GOP efforts on health care. The realities of Obamacare and its structural deficiencies, however, threaten to break up the celebration.

  • Work of Art: A year with Asian students

    For now, let’s simply call them “Kitty” and “Tookta,” the second name pronounced with a long “o,” as in Tuke-tah.” We Trujillos have done it again; we’ve accepted two more foreign exchange students whom we understand are the only two such students in Las Vegas.

    Two years ago we took Phaedra, from Belgium, and Ana, from Spain, into our home and “adopted” them for 10 months while they completed their 10th and 12th school grades, respectively, at West Las Vegas High School.

  • The 2016 cycle seems endless

    As election returns trickled in last fall, some of us began to breathe a sigh of relief that somehow, majestically, through no fault of our own, we had finally crawled across the finish line of the 2016 election campaign.

  • Just a Thought: Being a hero doesn’t mean having to fight the bad guy

    By Rick Kraft

    Whether you are happy with what you have or unhappy because of what you don’t have, you have the same things.  We spend so much time looking right and left rather than looking inward and then outward.

  • Beth Speaks for Herself - Remembering names: If it were easy, we’d all do it

    By Beth Urech

    We meet lots of people while cruising up the Michigan coast, and it isn’t easy remembering their names. We met Chuck and Cathy on Beaver Island and then were in the ship next to their trawler in Frankfort (Michigan, not Germany.)

    Because I had connected their names with their boat name of “Carousel,” (All C’s) I could say, “Hi, Chuck and Cathy. How was your crossing?”

    Exodus = stagnation
    It is time for New Mexico to change course.  What has not been working in the past must remain in the past.

    New Mexico is suffering as a state because of the lack of funds. As a result, every citizen pays the consequences. Those that suffer the most are the young people. They look at what the state offers them once they graduate from either high school or college.

    A decision must be determined on whether to fight for the few jobs available or leave the state.
