Letters

  • Mil Gracias

I played on the 2011 Las Vegas Little League 9-10 year old boys All Star team. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following businesses and families who graciously contributed  monetary donations for my travel expenses to the district tournament in Taos and the state tournament in Roswell.

We would like to thank all our family, friends and neighbors for raising money for medical bills for Edward Fernandez from Cleveland, who is battling cancer. God bless you all.

  • Commendations to good teachers

Another academic year begins this week in Las Vegas, reminding me of a letter that I intended to write a few months ago, but never did. It goes like this:

  • ‘Doomsday’ not due to ‘community’

“Planning for doomsday” was the headline. Sounds to me like planning doomsday. Water, one of three things needed to stay alive, is in short supply. The other two is food and oxygen. Everyone knows what the problem is but no one has the courage to do anything about it. Councils and mayors past did not want to be the ones to spend the required money to get it fixed and the ones in power seem to be waiting for the next election.

  • An open letter to Congress

Honorable Members of the Congress of the United States of America: As a citizen who is concerned about how Congress is making decisions, I have serious questions as to whether you are adhering to your oath of office.

  • Benefits being taxed unfairly

For the past 17 years, I have been writing to our congressional delegation and various others about the unfair taxing of Social Security benefits for married couples as opposed to single taxpayers.

The Las Vegas Arts Council thanks the attendees, vendors, and entertainers who made the 33rd annual People’s Faire such a great success.

Las Vegas Arts Council’s mission is to promote, encourage, advise, and coordinate the cultural arts in Las Vegas and surrounding communities. We believe that People’s Faire provides a wonderful opportunity for local artists, artisans, and performers and provides a great place to enjoy the cultural arts that our community offers.

  • Let’s get this story straight

Reading and seeing your article on Monday, Aug. 8, brought a smile to my face — to see a couple of state champs from the West side.

I, as well, am a state champion from West Las Vegas, Class of 1978, who got the winning hit to bring the State Title to WLV.

I had no idea that we had back-to-back titles. I praise the class of 1979, if that ever happened. Maybe your reporter was just reporting not investigating.

The Las Vegas City Schools Elementary Administrative Team would like to thank the custodial and maintenance staff for their hard work and positive attitudes over the past month. These crews have worked diligently to accomplish all that we have asked of them. Their dedication to making our schools and grounds look exemplary is much appreciated.

Extra special thanks to Raymond Baca from the Mike Mateo Sena Elementary staff.

  • Water: KISS, and just do it

That headline is what I wanted to say after a recent “Over the Back Fence.” The mayor requires Sen. Pete Campos’ help now; we all require some truth without the frosting and no more talk.
