  • Memories from a thankful mother

Miranda, my ‘Jita, was one daughter, sister, and auntie, along with niece, cousin, friend, and coach, that left this life with so many precious, loving, and great memories — always putting everyone else ahead of herself.

  • Toy distribution this Saturday

The Mora Toys for Tots Program is proud to announce that we will be distributing toys on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Mora Elementary Gymnasium. Program coordinator Edward Aragon would like to thank all the individuals who made this year a success.

He states that the program has grown steadily over the years and is extremely thankful to the citizens of Mora County for supporting the great endeavor.

Children between ages 1-12 are invited to participate in this year’s Toys for Tots Program.

  • AWC programs need your help

Las Vegas and San Miguel County have been the lucky recipients of low-cost spay and neuter services provided by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter mobile clinic and the Animal Welfare Coalition for several years. Approximately 100 dogs and cats are spayed or neutered each month, preventing thousands of unwanted litters.

  • Good experience at Alta Vista

As long as we are alive and kicking, one never knows when we might need hospital services.

My recent experience with the surgical department at Alta Vista Regional Hospital was a pleasant one. The staff was very professional and courteous. The entire process was orderly and served to calm my anxiety. Thank you surgeon and staff,  keep up the good work.

  • They’re really self servants

Who is to blame for our country’s problems? Big business? The government? In his Editor’s Note “The blame game” (Nov. 14), Tom McDonald induced a great discussion and a lot of thinking at my house.

We had just watched a thought provoking Piece by Steve Kroft on 60 Minutes the night before. They wondered why senators and congressman spent millions on getting a job that only pays $174,000 per year and after a few years retire as millionaires well exceeding the money paid to them during their term. When you think about it, it just doesn’t add up.

  • Crossroads to the future

A statement to the San Miguel County Oil and Gas Task Force read on Nov. 15, 2011:

  • Terr’s column a good reminder

The article by Jim Terr expressing his pleasure in re-discovering his hometown of Las Vegas was a joy to read, but he left out the mention of one of the treasures that is unique to Las Vegas. Tome on the Range is a special place that is so much more than a bookstore, involved in the community, with activities for all ages and an owner and staff who contribute so much every day to us.

Thank you, Jim Terr, for reminding us of what Las Vegas offers us who live here.

  • Mil Gracias

We, the parents, family members and friends of our beloved hero, Jesus “Jesse” Griego, would like to thank all who were involved in renaming the Valley Middle School gym “The Jesus ‘Jesse’ Griego Middle School Gym.”

  • Las Vegas has even more to offer
