There is a dumpster in the parking lot behind Wells Fargo downtown that is used primarily by Dick’s Restaurant. The fact that the city trash truck drivers can’t seem to place the damn thing on its concrete pad is one thing, but why is it always way out on the sidewalk!

What really gets me is that this thing is nearly constantly leaking a mix of bar and restaurant fluids across the sidewalk and into the gutter!

The 6th annual Thomas Mishler Music Scholarship Recital was recently performed by four very talented students from the NMHU Music Department. They were soprano, Nicole Robinson; tenor saxophone, Joshua Armendariz; baritone and guitar, Timothy Martinez; and, Dennis Montaño on the trumpet. These students were awarded a competitive scholarship last fall. In the meantime, they worked closely with their music instructors to prepare four to five selections for the spring recital.

Mil Gracias to all those who made the first annual Stop Diabetes Walk and free diabetes health screenings event a success! Volunteers included Donna Ortiz and her Dreammakers Health Career Club at Robertson High School; Christina Lovato and the Semillas de Salud Health Career Club at West Las Vegas High School; and El Centro Family Health staff and providers, including Jenna Schipporeit, Marian McAdams, Chris Ruge, Angela Baumeister, April Valdez, and Vincent Ruiz.

Over the past year I have resisted the temptation to complain about local governmental events affecting Las Vegas citizens but now I am angry.  Two items have recently shown the ineptitude of appointed and elected officials.  

The first is the absence of audits in the East Las Vegas school system. This is not just an oversight, it was done on purpose. It is illegal and someone should be held accountable, not just reprimanded or fired.
