I recall growing up where culture, traditions and faith worked hand in hand. Most of the people in the Mora Valley back in the ‘30s and ‘40s made their living off their crops.
They had what they called the dry years, and the wet years. During the dry years people would take the statue of St. Isidore and parade him through the fields and the people would be blessed with rain.

Las Vegas did indeed lose a local legend with the death of Robert Jones on May 25.
Mr. Jones often presented a very gruff exterior, but those who could get past that knew one of the most kind-hearted, loyal and generous friends anyone could ever ask for.

Let’s see if I understand this. Fireworks are banned in San Miguel County, but people can set them off in Las Vegas?

Walk around town. Everyone has yards full of dead grass and weeds. The trees are half dead and dried out. The town is a tinderbox.  

The people of Luna, Carlsbad, Raton, and now Santa Fe are, or have been, living with the fear of losing their homes to fire.

But, no doubt because of the precious fiestas, we are going to let people in Las Vegas play with fireworks this July?

On behalf of myself and my family, I wish to extend sincere appreciation to my fellow employees at the San Miguel County Jail and other county employees who have and continue to donate their annual leave on my behalf. I would also like to thank community members for their help while I recover from my cancer treatment.
