In the last six years my water bill has gone up $15. I use less than 2,000 gallons, the minimum amount of water, and I don’t use city natural gas. Contrary to popular belief we live in a rather poor community, with working poor, disabled and seniors on limited and/or fixed incomes, and to impose trash bills combined with land taxes, I think is prejudicial. Please find other ways to collect on unpaid trash bills!

It has come to my attention that administration and the School Board at the Mora Independent Schools is talking about closing the swimming pool and making it into a bus garage. In my opinion, this is the worst mistake anyone can make, and the community should protest.

The swimming pool is the only form of recreation that is available for the children in the community. It’s because of the children that the Mora Independent Schools gets funding.

The Las Vegas-San Miguel County chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life held its overnight event on June 10 and 11 at the West Las Vegas High School Frank Herrera football sports complex. It was preceded by the survivors’ reception on June 9 at The Night Owl. Entertainment was provided by El Trio Los Gallos. Alta Vista Regional Hospital provided all the refreshments.

The community of Holman has been offered another town hall meeting by the Post Office, in redress for the first very unsatisfactory meeting that was held on April 19 of this year at the Mora Post Office. It will be held in the small gymnasium at  Mora Independent Schools on Wednesday, July 20, from 5:30 p.m. until done.  

As a community, we very much appreciate this gracious concession by the Post Office, and we look forward to a pleasant, productive meeting in which our concerns are voiced and heard.
