  • Questioning the bookkeeping

Regarding the Robertson High School bookkeeping: So, if I don’t reconcile my personal checkbook, I can go on thinking the balance in there is true and correct? No wonder we are still paying high property taxes for these keepers of the public trust.

Maybe Robertson should place just a wee bit more emphasis on scholastics, rather than spending it all on athletics.

I can’t keep up with my property taxes — give me a break.

  • Nothing to do with wealth

(Regarding the May 4 letter, “Tethering can be more humane”) Seriously?

This anti-tethering ordinance has absolutely nothing to do with the wealthy having their possessions replaced after being robbed. If you own a home you should have insurance. Wealthy or not. If you want your possessions protected/replaced, get insurance.

  • News on an area chapel, cemetery

This is regarding Mr. Ben Archibeque and the chapel and cemetery in Los Vigiles, N.M.

The chapel, located in Los Vigiles, was built in 1915 by the Fresquez family, i.e. Modesto Fresquez, Juan Fresquez, Cleofes Fresquez and Marino Mejillas.

This chapel was built in faith and is not to be used for monetary value. It was built for our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, extended family and friends, and is free of charge to those who wish to lay to rest their loved ones.

  • Concerns about article, filing

This letter is in reference to Thomas Cole’s article printed in the Albuquerque Journal North and reprinted in the Las Vegas Optic’s April 20 edition. I would like to clarify that the Roberta Vigil mentioned in the article as the treasurer of candidate Viola Vigil’s Election Committee is not the Roberta Vigil that is married to Rep. Richard Vigil.

  • Chained dog, sitting duck

I saw a pack of very muscular pit bulls run down the street recently. They weaved in and out of each yard as they headed  toward Walmart. I called animal control. The message said to call the police, who said they would check on it.

I know I’m taking up more than my share of space now but I just wonder, what chance a chained dog would have against that pack of pit bulls? A chained dog would instantly morph into a sitting duck, would it not?

  • Tethering can be more humane

When the wealthier are robbed they submit their claim to their insurance and get all the money back for their items that were stolen. When the poor are robbed they suffer greatly, not being able to replace anything.

  • Postal Service reliable, efficient

The U.S. Postal Service, or USPS, has provided reliable and efficient service since 1775. I can attest to the past seven decades.

Congress and Senate are addressing the most recent proposal to “shut down” services and contract out delivery routes.

House bills HR1351 and House Resolution 137 are to be acted upon and the U.S. Senate is also deliberating on the same issue.

It is critical that the Postal Service continue to provide six-day service.

  • Mil Gracias - May 4, 2012

This letter is to thank and commend the staff at Alta Vista Regional Hospital for their excellent care and customer service during my husband’s recent stay due to pneumonia.

  • Highlands gala was too much

Your coverage was lacking. We couldn’t find, in all the color photojournalism, any mention of the coronation date/time, etc.

Now we know how the 1 percenters live and whoop it up.

All this and King Fries demands a tuition increase, from his loyal subjects, for the gilding of his throne?

ou’ve got to admit — it was a bit much.
