  • Highlands gala was too much

Your coverage was lacking. We couldn’t find, in all the color photojournalism, any mention of the coronation date/time, etc.

Now we know how the 1 percenters live and whoop it up.

All this and King Fries demands a tuition increase, from his loyal subjects, for the gilding of his throne?

ou’ve got to admit — it was a bit much.

  • Allow cougars to live in NM

Please allow cougars to live in peace in your state. It’s thanks in part to your wonderful state that we have wildness left in this country.

Please continue to safeguard that heritage for future generations. Thank you for caring enough to stop the advancement of these hunts.

  • Mil Gracias - April 30, 2012

Casa de Cultura, Tri-County Farmers Market, Barter Hours and Farm to Restaurant Project Main Street wish to extend their mil gracias to all attendees to the third annual Las Vegas Seed Exchange, “Compartindo Semillas” at Luna Community College.

Special thanks to Adrienne Obrien, Luna Culinary Arts instructor, and the Culinary Arts Club for preparing a delicious lunch of native foods.

Thanks to Luna administration for providing the venue for the third straight year and assisting us in creating a tradition that can only grow in the future.

  • Editorial cartoon like trash talk

Regarding the editorial cartoon published on Friday, April 20 ... (it) shows an uneducated, biased opinion about Republicans and conservatives. Those kinds of cartoons, which obviously you select, are offensive to me and those people I know who are Republicans.

  • God-loving folks take offense

A very divisive political cartoon on April 20 is the assault on the right by lies and distortions.

Who on the right has ever said:  No Mexicans? End welfare? War on women? All Muslims terrorize? Hooded blacks scare us?

These are the mantras of the far left to deflect from unconstitutional takeovers by the far left.

As for gay marriage, just get big government out of our private lives! And, “Obama a Muslim”? His speech, acts, friends and name change at age 19 indicate as much.

  • Find a better way to treat our dogs

I have been reading letters to the editor, pro and con, concerning the dog-tethering ordinance passed by the Las Vegas City Council. I also googled everything I could find on this subject and think I understand both sides of the issue.

It seems to me that those opposed to the non-tethering ordinance mostly object on a financial basis. Trust me, I get it. I cannot have a Mercedes for the exact same reason. Those against tethering dogs believe it is cruel and dangerous for the dog.

  • Read and follow school policy

Why is Principal (Steve) Sandoval being made the  scapegoat for doing a job that he has been hired to do? Most people agree discipline should start at home; unfortunately these days there are  individuals being sent into our public schools who lack the discipline and are interfering on the rights of our children who go to school to get an education in a safe and drug free environment.

  • Standing up for a good principal

Regarding the alleged bullying incidents occurring at West Las Vegas Middle School, I have had many encounters with Mr. Steve Sandoval over the years as a friend, as a parent of a West Las Vegas Middle School student, and as a member of our educational community. Mr. Sandoval has always treated me, and those that I have observed him with, with kindness and fairness.

  • Time to put an end to dog tethering

It’s the 21st century, and as a nation we have stopped doing many things that were considered OK in days gone by. We no longer force small children to work in sweat shops, or forbid women to vote, or make African Americans sit in the back of the bus.

It’s the 21st century, and it’s time for Las Vegas to join the rest of America in doing away with the cruel practice of tethering dogs.

  • Husband’s firing was unjustified

I wanted to write this letter of utter disbelief to inform the community of a  horrible injustice happening in Las Vegas.

Many of you know my husband “Officer Cruz.” He’s been a police officer for over 20 years. Recently, he was working at the New Mexico Highlands University Police Department under Chief Donato Sena.
