I was deeply saddened with the ignorance and lack of awareness displayed by Mayor (Alfonso) Ortiz and Las Vegas City Attorney David Romero in their efforts to attack me personally on the issue concerning my signature on the notice of intent to recall.

My life has always been an open book. I don’t ask anyone to worship me, nor have I ever claimed to be a saint. I paid my dues to society, and I am not ashamed of my conviction. I was a political prisoner of war.

I would like to bring attention to the extraordinarily dangerous situation concerning pedestrians and bicyclists in our town. As a pedestrian who walks nearly every day, and a bicyclist who is frankly too afraid to ride anymore, I can honestly say we take our lives in our own hands.

That the city has so negligently let the crosswalk markings become so faded is inexcusable. If funding is available for large raises for administrators, it seems the city should easily afford a little white wash for the streets.

Aleandra Sanchez’s family from Villanueva would like to thank family, friends and community for the tremendous support during this devastating death. We will never be the same and will live with an empty heart, but we are not alone.

The First Family has vacationed every month this year, and the president announced (recently) a new $100 million expenditure to study brains. But where we live, three employees at the West Las Vegas Head Start will lose their jobs because of a 2 percent reduction in federal spending, i.e. one of the manipulated consequences of that terrible “sequester.”

It’s too bad the president refused the legislative flexibility Congress offered to him to avoid this very kind of thing. Any guesses why he did that? Mr. president, your priorities please!
