Laws on unions should be changed
Ever since I was made to leave a job because I was not a member of a Bricklayer–Laborer Union, I have been against unions. I was 14, working for my father as a laborer, and couldn’t believe someone could tell me I couldn’t work because I wasn’t part of their club.
It’s even harder to believe that money can be taken from people’s paychecks without their permission and given to unions in New Mexico.

    Staff disappointed in school board
The staff at Rio Gallinas are disappointed to know that the West Las Vegas School board is reflecting such scrutiny, when, just a few weeks ago, they refused to show up to a meeting hosted by PED for our school improvement plan. When we have asked for support from west, we have a history of receiving nothing, and yet, $339 seems to be enough of a reason to raise public concern.

    Archbishop’s Christmas message
Christmas decorations are up all over New Mexico. But it seems the emphasis is on large Santa Claus figurines, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. There are twinkling lights and tinsel everywhere and people are busy buying and wrapping gifts in fancy paper with big bows. We are all sending and receiving Christmas cards. Dinners and trips are being planned. Lots of money is being spent. We are told we are supposed to say “Happy Holidays” — not Merry Christmas!

I write this letter as a concerned and frustrated parent of an eighth grade child who attends Rio Gallinas Charter School. The upper grade classes are in the midst of their third move this school year with at least one more move to go. Not only my daughter, but all the students from sixth to eighth grade at this school are losing valuable learning time, and for what reason?

    City’s priorities
    are skewed

There is no other town that comes together after a tragedy better than the Las Vegas community, especially when it comes to our children. This time, however, the city of Las Vegas has chosen to be part of the problem instead of the solution.
