    Take animal abuse cases seriously
Regarding the mistrial in the case of the dog named Hubble, I don’t care who dropped the ball in this animal abuse/neglect case; the fact remains and appears as if our community doesn’t really take such cases seriously. This makes our city look as if we are living in the past when some people used to think an animal was just an animal with no thought of compassion.

Educator: Throw the book at Trujillo
After reading all the counts against Charles Trujillo, I hope that every educator is as angry as I am!
Myself, as well as many of my peer educators, worked our tails off and sacrificed to earn our licenses and certifications! We can feel good about ourselves because we did.
To hear about all the falsified licenses and certifications really makes me sick!
I hope they throw the book at him!

Pleased by PED pick for West school board

Thank you, state Public Education Department. Your decision to provide a fresh voice on the  West Las Vegas School District Board of Education that is not connected to politics is what is required to move a district forward.

    Keep up the momentum

Some have said the city has made little or no progress on its water problems. That is flat out wrong.

Las Vegas was in the state and national news as the New Mexico city nearly running out of water — not good for citizens’ quality of life nor for the economy. Over the past several years, the city has made lots of progress toward fixing the ancient, neglected, and inadequate water system that the previous administration inherited.

    Editorial cartoon was inappropriate

What is the purpose of printing the cartoon that appeared on the editorial page of the Optic, July 10-12, 2016? It certainly does not enlighten or inform. The cartoonist made a generalization about police officers that characterizes the more than three-quarters of a million law enforcement officers in the nation as ready to stop and kill a black driver.

    ‘Lack of consideration astonishing’

UNBELIEVABLE! ONE WEEK before the Senior Olympics in Roswell and our $40 one year passes to Highlands’ pool have apparently expired! Perhaps for the Rec Center too.

I am entered in swimming in the Senior Olympics and went to the pool this morning at 7 a.m. to swim my laps. I was told I had to pay $1 or buy a $10 pass. I do not carry money when I go to the pool.

    Mil Gracias

This letter is to thank the many people who came together to help make possible books and creative activities for children in the Las Vegas community. You came from all sorts of groups and as individuals who heard the call for volunteers. You came, so many that you were lining up to become reading buddies and creativity assistants for that day or even two days. Next time we will need you even more.
