Trump a bad choice for president

Donald Trump may be a multi-billionaire, commanding a huge real estate empire. He may be a leading candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 2016. He may have a daily cameo on almost every news program in the country.
But Donald Trump has absolutely no class! You might expect someone who was raised with privilege and educated in a military prep school, Fordham and Wharton to have a little polish. But if he ever had any, he lost it somewhere on the way to fortune and fame.

    Shame on you, city government

After reading the article “No room at the Inn,” I felt compelled to write this letter. I was born and raised in this community. I received my nursing degree and worked in the community for many years. I worked alongside of many great physicians and nurses that are dedicated to serving their community. This community helped me become the person I am today, something I will be forever proud and grateful for.

    Many helped with cemetery restoration

Many I read the article about Carol Wawrychuck and her journey to “bring dignity” to the cemeteries at the Behavioral Health Institute and it is indeed gratifying that information about these cemeteries is now being read by folks in this community. I appreciate this — but I would very much like to acknowledge the diverse groups of individuals who worked diligently for three years prior to Mrs. Wawrychuk’s visit to the hospital in 2005 ....

    Firefighting funds diverted to Spaceport

In the future when New Mexico citizens need help from their local fire departments, they should call Spaceport New Mexico instead of 911.

If that doesn’t work, try calling your state representative or senator. They, in their great wisdom, transferred $1.2 million from the Fire Protection Fund Grant Program to Spaceport New Mexico in this year’s legislative appropriations bill.

An endorsement for Barbara Perea Casey

On behalf of ADELANTE and the American Association of University Women, we would like to thank all of the mayoral and city council candidates for their participation in the recent forums.  We must also thank New Mexico Highlands University for loaning us the use of the Student Center for holding our forums.  Thanks also go to the Optic and of course to all the citizens who attended.

    Las Vegans helping Las Vegans

Many of us find ourselves beset every day by requests for money—through the mail, by email, telephone, on the street, and even in church. While we may know that many of these requests correspond to real, legitimate needs, we know we can’t help everyone who asks. Also, when solicited by large charities, we often wonder where the money goes — will the money we donate help those in need right around us? However, in the case of one local fund-raising effort, Las Vegas has received more than it has given.

    All are outraged

My  letter on the affair of the Trujillo cousins (Optic, Jan. 1) seems to have struck a nerve. Since Kenny Sandoval has resorted to name-calling (Optic, Jan. 10), I feel it necessary to respond. Just to set the record straight, I gladly accept the labels of curmudgeon and negativist. It took me many years to achieve this status.
