Cards, Dons fall in football openers

Robertson’s offense remains a work in progress, and the Portales Rams took advantage of that fact Friday night, doubling up the Cardinals 26-13 at Blackwater Draw.

Meanwhile, back in the Meadow City, Clayton defeated West Las Vegas 45-20 in another opener for this prep football season.

In each case, the competition was considerable. Portales is among the top-ranked teams in Class 4A along with the Cardinals. Clayton’s Yellowjackets have been to the Class 3A state final the last two years, winning in 2013.
