    We meet lots of people while cruising up the Michigan coast, and it isn’t easy remembering their names. We met Chuck and Cathy on Beaver Island and then were in the ship next to their trawler in Frankfort (Michigan, not Germany.)

    Because I had connected their names with their boat name of “Carousel,” (All C’s) I could say, “Hi, Chuck and Cathy. How was your crossing?”

    The city’s budget has recently gotten media attention, and there’s been some misunderstandings about both terminology and process regarding municipal budgets in the state of New Mexico.

    I get it. Words like “budget”  and “accounting”  make most people’s eyes glaze over. Most of us hate to even balance our checkbooks, and the work of the finance department is a little like continuously balancing an enormous, complex checkbook.

The story addressed a critical issue in Mora County regarding public safety and the availability of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the county. However, because of the brief and simplified format of the story, some vital facts were either missing or in need of clarification.

    The annual summer fun times are here at the ranch. Friends and relatives return to “recharge their battery” as my doctor father used to say here in our beautiful part of New Mexico. I am an unofficial tour guide for these younger generations.

    Yes, I have been here for a long time (now more than 80 years) and I have never tired of poking around in our Las Vegas with this younger set.

    Answer: Be aware that college is going to be a very new experience. This is a major life transition. It will be especially different if you’re going to be living away from your family for the first time. You are going to meet many different types of people who may not think of the world as you do.

    Albuquerque’s penchant for hitting triples this summer has several Isotopes ranked among the Pacific Coast League’s best in that category with less than a month to go in the regular season.

    The Las Vegas Women’s Golf Association sent two teams to the Santa Fe Country Club Invitational Tournament on July 20, and both came home winners.

    The combination of Tangee Dolan, Amy Duhon, Denise Franken, Mary Wolfe emerged as winners of the first flight low gross.

    Winners of the second flight low net were Jacque Geoffrion, Merlyn Gonzales, Sue Johnson and Dodie Torres. Geoffrion also won with the longest drive.
