  • Clovis air crash kills 3

    CLOVIS, N.M. — The Air Force on Thursday released the identities of three service members killed Tuesday night in the crash of a reconnaissance and surveillance plane during a training flight in eastern New Mexico.

    Cannon Air Force Base officials say the 33-year-old pilot, Capt. Andrew Becker from Novi, Michigan, 29-year-old Capt. Kenneth Dalga from Goldsboro, North Carolina, and 26-year-old co-pilot, 1st Lt. Frederick Dellecker from Daytona Beach, Florida, were killed.

  • Dispatch New Mexico - Fact-checking websites can offset fake news

    One of my favorite website resources is Snopes.com. It’s straightforward, nonpartisan and well sourced in its findings, and in this era of fake news, it’s a great way to discern fact from fiction.

    Of course Snopes is not the only fact-checking website out there these days, but it’s widely considered one of the most reliable. Criticisms that have been leveled against Snopes have pretty much been debunked as baseless by other fact-checking sources like Factcheck.org.

    The Pam Sandoval era is off to a good start.

    West Las Vegas’ softball varsity, now under the direction of new head coach Sandoval, opened its schedule with an 18-11 shootout win at Ruidoso on Tuesday.

    Jasmine Sanchez hit 4 for 5 with a double. Lucia Martinez was 3 for 6 with a double, triple and three RBI. Jennifer Sanchez was 3 of 5 with one RBI. Amri Lucero had two doubles.

    The Lady Don junior varsity also won, 7-1.

    Sandoval, a veteran of the Las Vegas Police Department, has coached in various capacities over the years.
