    Wednesday Aug. 8 — The “genero chico” period of Spanish drama will be represented on the Highlands University campus when “Calderon,” by Carlos Arniches and Celso Lucio will take to the Little Theater stage. Calderon will be portrayed by Eli Herrera. The play will be directed by Romeo Hinajosa. There will be no admission charge.

    Fort Union candlelight tours this Saturday

    Fort Union National Monument National Park Service annual candlelight tours will be held this Saturday. Tours are free and will run 35 to 40 minutes, starting at 7:45 p.m., 8:15 p.m., 8:40 p.m., 9 p.m., 9:20 p.m., 9:40 p.m. and 10 p.m. Photography is allowed only during the 7:45 p.m. tour. Reservations are required. Call 425-8025.

  • Cowboys picked 6th in RMAC poll

    It was a rude awakening in 2011.

    Jordan Campbell caught the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference by surprise, wreaking all kinds of havoc on opposing offenses last fall, his first season as a linebacker for New Mexico Highlands University.

    This year, the surprise element is gone. The RMAC knows and respects what Campbell can do on a football field.

  • Tucson tops ‘Topes

    With the potential tying run on deck, Tucson relief pitcher Nick Vincent forced Matt Angle to ground into a double play, then struck out Elian Herrera to secure a wild 14-11 victory over the host Albuquerque Isotopes on Monday night.

    Tucson rallied from a 10-2 hole to overtake the Isotopes, and the Padres did it in a couple of big innings.

    Las Vegas’  Young American Football League will hold a coaches’ meeting for all new and returning YAFL coaches at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the Abe Montoya Recreation Center.

    First day of official practice for most fall high school sports programs in New Mexico was Monday, Aug. 6. Check with school coaches or athletic directors for more information.
