The person elected municipal judge for the city of Las Vegas in 2014 could end up making less than the current judge.
The City Council last week adopted an ordinance that changes the way the municipal judge is paid.
The salary is currently tied to that of San Miguel County magistrate judges. Municipal Judge Eddie Trujillo currently makes $80,000 a year.
Under the new ordinance approved by the council, the person elected in 2014 will be paid between $54,000 and $80,000, depending on judicial experience and the city’s pay plan.
