    GREEN BAY, Wis.  — When Aaron Rodgers needs to rekindle the feelings that drove his rise from a junior college quarterback to Super Bowl MVP, he doesn’t have to look too far.

    Rodgers held on to the many rejection letters he received from marquee college programs as he was coming out of high school. Even today, he leaves a few of them sitting out at his house.

  • Abreu, Arguello, Bustos: All-state

    Dalan Abreu — like most of his Robertson football teammates — learned how to labor as a two-way player, getting little rest because his playmaking ability was employed on both offense and defense.

    Abreu’s work on the gridiron paid off by helping the Cardinals win the District 2-3A title and get back to the state playoffs. It also earned him dual all-state recognition from the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

  • Stu Clark’s final day to feature HU hoops bonus

    The Stu Clark Tournament, which tips off this coming Wednesday at the Wilson Complex, will have a modified schedule to incorporate a special New Mexico Highlands University hoops doubleheader on Friday.

    In the opening session of the annual boys’ high school basketball holiday tourney, Moriarty plays Silver at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Then Capital takes on St. Pius X at 3 p.m. The Wednesday evening session sees Bernalillo square off against West Las Vegas at 6, followed by Portales vs. Robertson at 8.

  • Mayweather KO’d by 90-day jail term

    LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a perfect 42-0 in the ring and has dodged significant jail time several times in domestic violence cases in Las Vegas and Michigan.

    But his courtroom streak came to an end Wednesday when a Las Vegas judge sentenced him to 90 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a reduced battery domestic violence charge and no contest to two harassment charges.

  • Mora County Notebook: Fire department donates food baskets

    The members of the LeDoux Volunteer Fire Department and residents of Le Doux, Monte Aplanado and El Carmen communities worked together to collect more than $300 and prepared eight Christmas baskets for the community members who are needy. Russell’s Discount Foods also donated money toward the food baskets.
