  • Salazar backers in festive mood

    Listening to Tuesday night election returns over KNMX radio, a crowd of Tomas Salazar supporters gathered at El Fidel Hotel sang along with a musical interlude provided by the Everly Brothers.

    But these folks were in an improvising mood. Instead of “Bye bye love, bye bye happiness,” they crooned “Bye bye Rick, Bye bye Rick Vigil.”

    By the time Salazar arrived from the San Miguel County Courthouse, the newly rechristened oldie had become a de facto victory anthem.

  • All-state lineups feature locals

    Between West Las Vegas and Robertson, the Meadow City had enough players selected to this year’s Class 3A All-State softball team to field a full squad.

    Nine locals — seven from West, two from RHS — earned all-state recognition from the New Mexico High School Coaches Association. The lineups were announced this past week by the NMHSCA’s Albuquerque-based office.

    Lady Dons Marissa Cordova, Montanna Martinez, Larrissa Gallegos, Gabrielle Griego and Ellena Armijo were chosen for the first team.

  • Mushball benefit Saturday

    A benefit mushball tournament will provide fun for participants and help get a Las Vegas resident to the Omaha World Series.

    The tourney is a benefit for Nathan Archuleta of Robertson High, who will be playing for Team Under Armour in an exclusive baseball camp and training to be held later this month in Omaha, Neb.

    The tournament will be held this coming Saturday, time and location to be announced. It is open to teams of 10, five males and five females per team mandatory. The entry fee per team is $100.
