  • Ortiz: Large class sizes violate law

    Parents from Los Niños Elementary School reiterated their desire to have another teacher at the school during a regular board meeting Thursday.

    In an earlier meeting this month, a similar group of parents expressed their frustration with the district’s handling of class sizes at the school site, particularly the third grade Spanish immersion program classroom at Los Niños Elementary.

    Storm-weary New Mexico is getting some help from the federal government on flood cleanup.

    The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Friday it will make immediately available $2 million in emergency relief funds to help the state cover the costs of repairing roads and bridges damaged by severe storms earlier this month.

    King disagrees with governor

    Democratic Attorney General Gary King is taking issue with Republican Gov. Susana Martinez’s suggestion that voters should decide whether to legalize same-sex marriage in New Mexico.
    King, who’s running for governor against Martinez next year, said Friday the best approach is for the state Supreme Court to resolve whether gay marriage is legal in the state. He said it’s a civil right issue.
