  • Driver in fatal crash getting death threats

    Bail was set at $100,000 cash or  $200,000 property for Wayne Lovato on Monday after he was arraigned on child abuse resulting in death and other charges stemming from an April wreck on Interstate-25 that left two teens dead and five others injured.

    The charges come on the heels on an earlier preliminary hearing during which testimony was heard in the case that will now be tried in adult court, where adult sanctions will be pursued if Lovato is convicted.

  • Highlands, State Land Office sign collaboration agreement

    State Land Commissioner Ray Powell and New Mexico Highlands University signed an agreement last week to share critical information about the species of plants and animals on state trust land and to work cooperatively on large projects like forest thinning in northern New Mexico.

    Seat belt ticket blitz under way
    The state Department of Transportation is warning motorists to buckle up or risk getting a ticket.
    Every year during the Memorial Day holiday period, May 20-June 2, law enforcement agencies join forces from coast to coast for an enforcement blitz that delivers on the message: Click It or Ticket.
    DOT said in a news release that the mobilization is supported by national and local paid advertising and earned media campaigns aimed at raising awareness before the blitz.
