  • Lady Devils hold on to title

    Samantha Montaño and the Lady Devil defense finished with four shutdown defensie innings Friday night, securing a 5-1 win over the Psychlones in the championship game of the Las Vegas Little League softball division.

    It’s a familiar place for the Lady Devils, manager Angela Pino and coach Michael Quintana. The team has won consecutive league titles dating back several seasons and was the favorite heading into Friday.

  • Isotopes streak past Zephyrs

    Luis Cruz smashed a two-run blast in the sixth inning Friday night and the Albuquerque Isotopes completed a doubleheader sweep of New Orleans with an 8-4 win.

    It was the third victory in as many games for the host Isotopes over the Zephyrs.

    Albuquerque is 43-32, a half-game behind division leader Oklahoma City.

    Nashville plays at Isotopes Park through Tuesday before the ‘Topes take off to Memphis for a series there.

  • Sex abuse case: Sandusky guilty of 45 counts

    BELLEFONTE, Pa.  — Jerry Sandusky was convicted Friday of sexually assaulting 10 boys over 15 years, a swift and emphatic end to a case that shattered Penn State University’s Happy Valley image and brought down Hall of Fame football coach Joe Paterno.

    Sandusky, a 68-year-old retired defensive coach who was once Paterno’s heir apparent, was found guilty of 45 of 48 counts and is almost certain to spend the rest of his life in prison.
