    ALLENTOWN, Pa.  — The new movie “Promised Land” digs into the fierce national debate over fracking, the technique that’s generated a boom in U.S. natural gas production while also stoking controversy over its possible impact on the environment and human health.

    Monday, Jan. 7 — The Sellman Brothers of Watrous had the Reserve Champion heifer and bull at the Arizona National Live Stock Show in Phoenix, Ariz. This show held annually Jan. 1-5, is of much interest to cattlemen of the Southwest. This year Hereford cattle from 23 states and Angus from as far east as New York were exhibited. The Sellmans, Marshall and Dick, own a 6,600-acre ranch near Watrous, where they run about 250 to 300 head of cattle.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn.  — Unforgettable songs like “Tennessee Waltz” and “(How Much Is That) Doggie in the Window?” made Patti Page the best-selling female singer of the 1950s and a star who would spend much of the rest of her life traveling the world.
    When unspecified health problems finally stopped her decades of touring, though, Page wrote a sad-but-resolute letter to her fans late last year about the change.
