NEW YORK — So long, replacement refs. The NFL’s regular crews will be back on the field this week.

After two days of marathon negotiations — and mounting frustration among coaches, players and fans — the NFL and the referees’ union announced at midnight Thursday that a tentative agreement had been reached to end a lockout that began in June.

New Mexico Highlands’ strong start to the football season has begun to draw some attention around the country.

The Cowboys, who gave a tough game to NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision opponent Utah State two weeks ago before upsetting Colorado School of Mines this past Saturday, received four votes in the American Football Coaches Association poll this week.

The AFCA Top 25 poll, released Monday, has the Cowboys unofficially ranked 38th in Division II, tied with Missouri S&T.

  • Another year coming to a close at the market

Mora’s Farmers’ Market has been very successful this summer. When it started in July the vendors had fresh lettuce, radishes and other early vegetables. People came to get the fresh produce that was home grown. It was picked fresh the day of market and cleaned and ready for use. They honor WIC and food stamps now.

  • The Masonic Lodge and the Rainbow Girls

I continue to be amazed at how fast time flies, particularly when I get into area history. This was brought home to me just last week  when I learned that the Chapman Lodge Number 2 of the Masonic Lodge in Las Vegas will soon be 99 years old. Yes, it is still active and does much for our community.
