Fishing report, May 6:
Conchas Lake: Fishing was fair using minnows and small jigs for crappie. Fishing was fair to good using senkos, tubes, worms, jerk baits and spinner baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using crank baits and spinner-night crawler rigs for walleye. Fishing was fair using crank baits and Kastmasters for white bass. We had no reports on other species.
Coyote Creek: Trout fishing was fair to good using Power Bait, worms, salmon eggs and small prince nymphs.

The state Public Education Department has now said the use of bond money to cover operating expenses is not only illegal, but also unconstitutional, and its Licensure Bureau is looking into the matter.

During the 2012 fiscal year, the Las Vegas City Schools district used roughly $1.56 million in bond money to cover operational expenses,  according to an independent audit by Albuquerque-based Griego Professional Services, LCC. The audit was released by the Office of the State Auditor in early April.

Tuesday, May 5 — Financial matters took up most of the time at the West Las Vegas Council meeting last night. Mayor Fidel C. Gonzales explained the Town’s financial status to the Council and stated that although the Town has a budget of $77,718 this year, $61,258 has already been disbursed and there is well over $7,000 in outstanding bills. In regard to the outstanding bills, the mayor said, “If we go ahead and pay them, we will not be able to operate the Town for the next three months.”
