    Less than five years removed from his state championship swan song as a high school tennis hero, Roman Fulgenzi finds himself coaching his alma mater instead of playing.

    While there is plenty different about this year’s version of the Robertson tennis program, the ultimate goal remains the same.

  • Guerin 3-time Carlsbad champ

    Robertson’s No. 1 girls’ singles player Juliana Guerin walked off with the gold medal at the Carlsbad Invitational for the third consecutive year on March 23.  

    Guerin has taken the top honors at this tournament since her eligibility in the eighth grade.  

    Eight teams participated including El Paso, Texas and many schools from around New Mexico.

    Guerin defeated Kalee Marrujo of Deming 6-2, 6-0  in the first round.

  • Mora routs Peñasco

    In a district softball doubleheader Tuesday in Mora, the host Rangerettes (4-2 overall, 2-0 4-2A) made quick work of Peñasco.

    Mora put both games away early via the 15-run rule. In the opener, the home team won 18-3 after three innings. In the nightcap, the rangerettes took a 26-11 shootout decided in four innings.

    Mora visits Pecos on Friday for another district twinbill.

  • Torres and Lujan crowned

    The Miss Las Vegas’ Outstanding Teen Pageant was held on Sunday, March 25 at the West Las Vegas High School Cafeteria.  

    Gabrielle Torres was crowned Miss Las Vegas’ Outstanding Teen 2012 and Savannah Lujan was named first runner-up.  

    Lujan was also crowned Miss Photogenic for raising the most money in the photogenic competition.

  • Que Pasa - March 30, 2012

    • The Abe Montoya Recreation Center is now taking team registrations for the Spring 2012 Co-Ed volleyball league. Games will be played on Wednesdays only and begin, April 4, and will continue until May 9. A single-elimination tournament will follow. League is considered noncompetitive fun league class. Team registrations will be taken through March 30. Team fee is $150. Contact Misty Williams at the Abe Montoya Recreation Center at 426-1739.

  • Mora County Notebook - Mora cheer squad does well in competition

    The Mora varsity cheerleading squad performed well at the state spirit competition at the Santa Ana Star Center in Bernalillo on March 23 and 24.

    The cheerleaders were able to compete at the state competition because of their showing in other competitions during the season. At these competitions they took the first place spot twice and one third place.

  • Palabras Pintorescas - The snow storms of days gone by

    Where oh where have the big snow of yester year gone? The ranch has recorded 81 inches here so far this year, which is much better than last year, but our annual average is 120 inches, so we have a way to go. We still  have time for a big storm or two, and the high mountains do have enough snow to keep our streams running longer than last year. The acequia watchers monitor this constantly.
