  • Cowgirls climb to .500 in RMAC

    Highlands’ women’s soccer team kept the pressure on Western State’s defense in recording a 2-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Perkins Stadium.

    The Cowgirls, who squared their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record at 3-3, were credited with 13 shots on goal while allowing just one.

    Crystal Schuder and Andrea Duke each tallied their third goals of the season for NMHU (5-3-2 overall).

  • Rodeo teams riding high at Highlands

    The New Mexico Highlands University rodeo team had another great weekend at the Cochise College Rodeo Sept. 27-28 in Douglas, Ariz.

    Both the Cowgirl and Cowboy teams notched Reserve Champion team finishes over the weekend, with individual competitors in both the men’s and women’s All-Around category.

    The Cowboys and the Cowgirls, led by head coach Jordan Taton, are sitting in second place in the Grand Canyon Region standings, with the Cowgirls just 145 points shy of first-place Central Arizona College.

  • Sandoval paces Pecos at SFIS meet

    Sophomore Ryan Sandoval ran to a 12th place individual finish and led the Pecos boys’ varsity cross country team to an eighth place team finish in this past Saturday’s Grimley Memorial Invitational hosted by Santa Fe Indian at Cochiti Pueblo.
    Sandoval crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 47 seconds.

    Sub-19-minute times also were turned in by Pecos freshman Julian Garcia (33rd place, 18:32) and junior Jason Henderson (42nd, 18:42).

  • Little League elections Oct. 22

    Elections for Las Vegas Little League and La Plaza Little League will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Abe Montoya Recreation Center.

    Last season, the two leagues joined forces on the governing board level, although LVLL and La Plaza retained independent sets of officers, teams and schedules in all divisions.

    Michael Quintana served as board president. Each league had posts for their own vice president, secretary, treasurer, player agent, safety officer and chief umpire.
