  • EDC must step up

The Las Vegas-San Miguel Economic Development Corporation would be teetering on dissolution were it not for a handful of people determined to keep it afloat. They’ve got their work cut out for them.

Last week, Matt Martinez, chairman of the EDC, and Lavinia Fenzi, interim executive director, attended a San Miguel County Commission meeting to ask for $10,000 for the agency. What they got was $5,000 and some pointed remarks about the effectiveness of its work.

  • Crespin rematch Friday night

The much-anticipated professional boxing match between Las Vegas light middleweight Arturo Crespin and Canadian Janks Trotter ended unceremoniously back on March 18 at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix.

An apparently accidental headbutt in the second round opened an ugly gash on Crespin’s face, and referee Tony Zaino stopped the fight, resulting in a no-contest draw.

It was a disappointment for “El Toro,” who had won four consecutive bouts going into the match with Trotter.
