  • 2 arrested in bar beating

    Two men are facing a host of felony charges after they allegedly pointed a gun at one man and then attacked another man at a local bar, according to court documents.

    Robert C. Padilla, 37, of the 6200 block of Lupin Road in Rio Rancho, and Jerome J. Garcia, 40, of Albuquerque, were both booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center, where they remained on Tuesday.

    The incident occurred last Wednesday evening at Trujillo’s Package Liquor on Grand. Police received a call about a fight in progress and were also told that one of the men had a handgun.

  • Giving back - UWC students volunteer time

    Roughly 200 United World College students got busy recently. The students volunteered their time to work on 10 community projects and nine on-campus projects as part of the National Day of Service.

    The students were joined by five Americacorps volunteers. The community projects included cleaning up the Beaver Creek campsite, trail repair at the Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge, helping with renovations at the local senior center, and repainting of parking lines at Rio Gallinas school.

  • Man accused of soliciting 11-year old

    A 48-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested Saturday after a woman called police to report that a neighbor was sending sexually explicit texts to her 11-year-old daughter.

    Daniel Mendez, whose address in court documents is listed as the 2500 block of Dalia Street, has been charged with one count of soliciting a child under 13 by electronic communication device, a third-degree felony, and with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

  • Stabbings under investigation

    Las Vegas Police are investigating two separate stabbings that occurred last week.

    Chief Christian Montaño said the first stabbing occurred on the 300 block of Mora Street on Friday. One individual was flown out for medical treatment, but Montaño said his injuries didn’t appear to be life- threatening. The two individuals involved in that incident appear to have diminished mental capacity, and the case remains under investigation, the chief said.
