  • Several local stores to be open on Thanksgiving

    If you’re in the mood for some holiday shopping after your Thanksgiving meal, you’re in luck.

    Bealls and Wal-Mart are opening their doors at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, while Sears will open at 7 p.m. And if last year is any indication, there will surely be lots of shoppers lined up waiting to take advantage of the blockbuster deals the stores are having. Sales will continue Friday and throughout the weekend.

    In 1963
    Tuesday, Nov. 26 — Approximately 800 Highlands University students and faculty attended the Memorial Service for the late President John F. Kennedy at Ilfeld Auditorium Monday. Dr. Thomas C. Donnelly, president of the university, presented the short eulogy. The Rev. Father Manuel Campos gave the Invocation and the Rev. Kelley Scott gave the Benediction. The Highlands Choir provided special music.

  • Gov is on the right track

    If you’ve been paying attention to the announcements coming out of Gov. Susana Martinez’s office in the last week, you know that she’s planning to push for significant funding for water projects during the upcoming legislative session.

    On Nov. 19 she announced that she would be asking the Legislature to earmark $112 million — roughly 60 percent of the capital outlay funding available next year — for water infrastructure projects throughout the state.
