  • GOP group criticizes King in new ad

    SANTA FE — A national Republican group threw its first punch Friday in New Mexico’s race for governor with a television ad critical of Democratic nominee Gary King.

    The ad by the Republican Governors Association started on the same day that GOP Gov. Susana Martinez’s re-election campaign launched its own TV spot portraying the incumbent as a supporter of small business who’s trying to improve New Mexico’s economy.

  • Las Cruces inmate stabbed 43 times

    LAS CRCUES — An inmate killed in a gang-related attack at a Las Cruces state prison was stabbed more than 40 times, according to an autopsy report released this week.

    The Las Cruces Sun-News reported Friday that the state Office of the Medical Investigator found 34-year-old Javier Enrique Molina suffered 43 stab wounds and five other cuts.

    The report states the fatal blows were to his heart and lungs.

  • Professor tapped for USDA fellowship

    Highlands University

    Highlands University professor Edward Martínez was tapped for a summer fellowship with the U.S. Department of Agriculture aimed at advancing excellence at Hispanic serving institutions and developing a well-prepared Hispanic workforce.

    Martínez was also selected to participate in the new Undergraduate Visualization and Modeling Network (UVMN) program funded by the National Science Foundation to advance watershed science through cutting-edge 3-D visualization and modeling.
