    Born in 1837, Eugenio Romero was two years younger than his brother Trinidad. In 1882 he was elected the first and only mayor of the combined city of east and west Las Vegas, before the eastside broke away and established itself as a separate municipality. (Don Eugenio alone held this distinction for almost 90 years, until the consolidation of our municipalities in 1970).

    The Sixth Annual Baby/Tiny Miss and Mister Las Vegas Pageant was held last month at West Las Vegas High School.  
    Twenty one girls and five boys competed for the titles in beauty in formal wear and personality in patriotic wear.

    Mariah Devine Lujan won the title of Baby Miss Las Vegas 2014.  She also won the title of Candid Princess and Best Personality. Lujan, 2, is the daughter of Robert and Crystal Lujan.

  • Lucky scratcher for Martinez

    A Las Vegas man won a $50,000 prize from the New Mexico Lottery.

    Beating odds of 1 in 160,000, Ernest Martinez revealed the prize in a “$50,000 Gold Rush” Scratcher™ that he bought along with his lunch on Wednesday.  He played the $5 game in his truck before leaving the store’s parking lot.   

    “I started laughing,” Martinez recalled for lottery officials in Albuquerque.  “And I laughed all the way home.  It was so exciting.”
