  • Lady Cards stun No. 1 Portales on the road

    With five seconds left in Friday night's game and her team trailing 45-44, Robertson guard Maria Barela fired up a prayer from well beyond the three-point line.

    Barela's long-range shot was right on target, stealing the lead from No. 1 Portales on the Rams' home court. The Robertson defense picked up at three-quarter court, preventing the Rams from advancing up the floor, and time ran out.

    Final score: Robertson 47, Portales 45.

  • Friday night hoops updates: Ben Lujan & more

    The West Las Vegas Lady Dons will play for the Ben Lujan Tournament girls' championship on Saturday evening in Jacona.

    West beat Penasco 51-46 in the semifinals Friday, improving to 6-1. The Lady Dons will meet tourney host Pojoaque Valley, which toppled Mora 60-19 in the other semifinal, at 6 p.m. Saturday.

    Jim Terr has received plenty of exposure for many of the videos he’s made through the years. His YouTube channel, jaimejaime, is closing in on two million total views.

    One recent has received particular interest — an invitation for Amazon to build a facility in or near Las Vegas — but Terr has been chipping away at the cybersphere of American politics and government for more than 10 years.

  • City Schools accepts 90-day plan

    In its nearly four-hour meeting Thursday night, the Las Vegas City Schools Board of Education discussed issues, took actions, accepted 90-day plan reports from the schools’ principals, recognized students in various events, honored district employees, and even made time for a dinner break.

    Is it really almost December 1st as I write this? I will admit I don’t keep track of time vey well, and both September and October flew by rapidly, as in fast up here in the mountains this year.

    Back in the day, the ridgeline snowpack was already beginning to fill in, pack down and reflect the beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountain sunrises that often are spectacular (as are the sunsets up here as well).

  • ‘Dreamland-ing’ in Wagon Mound

    New Mexico Film Office Director Nick Maniatis announced earluer this fall that the feature “Dreamland,” produced by Romulus Entertainment, Automatik Entertainment and LuckyChap Entertainment, would shoot principal photography in New Mexico, including some in the Wagon Mound area.

    Production was set to begin in mid-October through mid-November.
