  • Police: Driver drove drunk while having sex

    A New Mexico man faces multiple charges after police say he was having sex with a woman while driving drunk and crashed, ejecting the woman from the vehicle.

    The Albuquerque Journal reports 25-year-old Luis Briones was found with one shoe on and his shorts on inside-out Monday night after he wrecked his Ford Explorer in Albuquerque.

  • Thirty-seven competing in baby pageant Sunday

    The Miss Las Vegas Scholarship Organization is sponsoring the Fifth Annual Baby Miss Las Vegas and Baby Mister Las Vegas Pageant at 3 p.m. Sunday at the West Las Vegas High School Cafeteria.  

    Kayla Gonzales, Miss Las Vegas, will be the Mistress of Ceremonies and will perform her talent. Entertainment will also be provided by Savannah Lujan, Miss San Miguel County’s Outstanding Teen and Samantha Romero, Little Miss Las Vegas.

    Admission to the event is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 years and younger.

    New Mexico Highlands students and staff lent a hand again to paint commercial buildings last Saturday as part of MainStreet de Las Vegas’ ongoing Façade Squad project.

    This time, two adjacent building on the 600 block of East Lincoln Street got a much-needed facelift.

  • Ex-campaign staffer indicted

    SANTA FE — A former campaign manager for New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez was indicted Thursday on federal charges of hacking the campaign’s email system and obtaining correspondence by the governor, her staff and supporters.

    U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzales announced the indictments in Albuquerque against Jamie Estrada of Los Lunas, who briefly served as campaign manager in 2009 as Martinez was starting her bid for governor.

    Lease extended for range

    SANTA FE — State Land Commissioner Ray Powell says his office will continue to lease 120 acres of public land in south Albuquerque for a shooting range operated by a local gun club.
    A lease with Zia Rifle and Pistol Club has been extended for five years, and the Land Office will receive $11,000 a year.
    The shooting range is near Kirtland Air Force Base and an Albuquerque police firing range.
