United States Marine Corps Sgt. Jason Pacheco doesn’t consider himself a hero.
The Las Vegas native lost part of his right leg after stepping on an improvised explosive device or IED in Afghanistan after a firefight that lasted several hours.
“I’m not a hero. Definitely not,” said a humble Pacheco, 23, in a telephone interview from his home in Oceanside, Calif., near Camp Pendleton. “All the heroes are no longer with their families or with us.”
