Try to imagine living for nearly a century. Ruben Salazar has. Born June 18, 1916, Salazar will be 95 years old soon.
His parents, Manuel and Juanita (Medina) Salazar survived to ages 105 and 103, respectively, so Ruben might meet that or surpass it. He attributes their and his longevity to “living right — eating from their own garden.”
Ruben hails from Maes, about 40 miles east of Las Vegas. He said that there are a lot of small communities in that area. Some, like La Encinosa, now consist of only one household.
