    If the rifle, gun safe and log splitter giveaways aren’t enough to catch your attention, then the autographed George Strait guitar just might be.

    Big R, the new farm and ranch supply store that opened its doors this week, is pulling out all the stops for its official grand opening this Saturday. Besides the giveaways, Big R will provide free pop and popcorn and 25 cent hotdogs.

  • Wagon Mound takes action to protect its drinking water

    Concerned about the severe drought, and potential contamination, the Wagon Mound Village Council approved a comprehensive Source Water Protection Plan for the spring that supplies drinking water to their community.

    The Plan, prepared with technical assistance from the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) Drinking Water Bureau and New Mexico Tech, provides for increased vigilance against potential sources of contamination, repair of aging water pipes, preservation of water rights and sustainability, and contingencies for emergencies.

  • Lawsuit alleges abuse by former priest

    The Archdiocese of Santa Fe was sued Tuesday over sex abuse allegations stemming from the 1980s at a parish in northern New Mexico.

    The lawsuit was filed in state district court on behalf of a 37-year-old man identified only as “John Doe.” It seeks unspecified damages from the archdiocese and St. Anthony parish in Questa.

Dollison, owner of the Dollison Theaters in Santa Fe, that his company has purchased the Las Vegas Fort Union Drive-In Theater from its former owners, Ward and Elaine Olsen and H.C. Mitchell. . . .  Dollison stated that he has great faith in Las Vegas, and plans many improvements to his theatre that will make the entertainment at the drive-in a pleasant evening for its patrons.

  • Heir to Johnson & Johnson fortune dies at 76

    WARSAW, Poland — She was a Polish farmer’s daughter who emigrated to the United States, a maid who worked for a wealthy American heir, a third wife who inherited much of the Johnson & Johnson fortune after a sensational court battle with her six stepchildren.

    Barbara Piasecka Johnson, the widow of J. Seward Johnson Sr., heir to millions made from bandages, baby oil and pharmaceutical products, has died at age 76.
