  • Students recognized at banquet

    New Mexico Highlands University honored numerous outstanding students and faculty at the 15th annual Student Leadership Recognition Banquet April 3.
    The Office of Campus life organizes the event each year.
    Margaret Gonzales, director of campus life said, “the Student Leadership Banquet is a great opportunity to recognize students, clubs, faculty and staff for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the university.”

  • Luna offering program for high school students

    Luna Community College will again offer an enhanced college credit summer program for upcoming classified high school juniors and seniors.

    For several years, Luna Community College has offered the Student Academic Advancement Institute. This year, it will run from Monday, June 3 to Friday, July 26. Registration begins on Tuesday, April 2 and runs through Friday, June 7.

  • Garcia brings home gold

    In her own words, Luna Community College Dental Assisting student Monica Garcia said she was “shocked and nervous” when she heard her name called after winning the gold medal at Saturday’s New Mexico SkillsUSA closing ceremony at the Crown Plaza.

    “I love the dental assisting program,” said Garcia minutes after receiving her gold medal. “I had been out of school for five years and the experience has been great. I was well prepared. I’m looking forward to competing at the national level.”

    Over the years, Luna Community College has had great representation at the New Mexico Skills USA competition in Albuquerque. This year, the local community college will be sending one of its largest groups.

    Thirty-five students and advisers have officially registered for the event which will be held from today (Wednesday) to Saturday in Albuquerque.

  • Acclaimed filmmaker to lecture at Highlands

    Documentary filmmaker, editor and director Maureen Gosling will teach at Highlands University April 1 to April 12 through the university’s Nina Telsa Ballen Visiting Artist Program.

    Gosling will also present a lecture and lead a discussion today (Monday) after a free community screening of the documentary Smokin’ Fish. The screening will be at 7 p.m. in Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.
