WILLMAR, Minn.  — A Willmar student worked to win an Apple iPad 2 in a middle school fundraiser this fall. But 12-year-old Annie Schaefbauer didn’t want the tablet computer for herself. Instead, she donated it to her school’s special education department.

“I’ve always liked to help people,” said Annie, who wants to be a special education teacher. The seventh-grader sometimes works with special education students and knew the special education department at Willmar Middle School needed another iPad.

The Wagon Mound Public Schools custodians and Superintendent Albert Martinez were recently recognized at the Public Schools Finance Authority and CES Facility Managers Workshop in Albuquerque during the Ben Lujan Achievement Award Luncheon.  

The Public School Facilities Authority conducted an intense Facility Maintenance Assessment of the Districts buildings and grounds and maintenance program.

LOS ANGELES — The California State University board of trustees on Wednesday approved a $380,000 salary for the system’s incoming chancellor that included a 10 percent pay cut at his request.

The board had been set to approve the administration’s recommended salary of $421,500 for Timothy P. White, the current president of Cal State-Riverside who is slated to replace retiring Chancellor Charles Reed on Dec. 31. The amount was the same that Reed currently earns.

LAS CRUCES — New Mexico State University executive vice president and provost Wendy Wilkins is stepping down.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that NMSU interim President Manuel Pacheco announced Tuesday that Wilkins will be replaced by Jay Jordan, a former NMSU administrator.
Officials say Wilkins, who started at the university in July 2010, will remain on annual leave at NMSU until Jan. 1, when she’ll retire.
