ALBUQUERQUE — Gov. Susana Martinez on Wednesday signed into law legislation aimed at increasing transparency among New Mexico’s public school districts and strengthening oversight of charter schools.

Among the four bills signed by the governor during a ceremony at Albuquerque’s Sandia High School was a measure that requires financial information about school districts and charter schools to be posted on a government website known as the “sunshine portal.”

New Mexico Highlands University soprano Nicole Robinson was part of a cast that received standing ovations in February for Santa Fe and Albuquerque performances of the 1964 Benjamin Britten opera Curlew River.

Britten called Curlew River a “parable for church performance,” and both productions were staged in First Presbyterian Churches.

Anthony Baca takes great satisfaction and pride in teaching his students how to turn beat-up old clunkers into prized cars — some good enough to enter classic car shows locally and statewide.

Since Baca started the first auto collision repair class at Luna Community College in 2000, his students have won five state championships and four students have competed at the national level.
